Midea PortaSplit faces EU refrigerant ban and cloud‑API shutdown

The EU will prohibit the synthetic refrigerant R32 in newly sold portable split air‑conditioners. Midea announced that sales of the current PortaSplit generation will end in 2027, with only existing stock being cleared. The company is developing a successor that will use a natural, climate‑friendly refrigerant such as R290. Existing units will remain usable, and Midea will continue to provide support and spare parts.

At the same time, Midea is shutting down the cloud‑based token API that many Home Assistant integrations rely on. New devices will soon require a token from the discontinued service, making the initial setup of additional units or re‑pairing after a reset increasingly difficult. Users are urged to configure devices promptly and securely store any tokens to avoid loss of functionality.
