Miderec honors 12 sports clubs on National Club Day
The Dominican Ministry of Sports and Recreation (Miderec), alongside the Dominican Federation of Clubs (Fedoclubes), celebrated National Club Day this Friday. The event honored 12 sports entities for their community contributions and historical trajectory.
Recognized clubs included San Lázaro, San Carlos, Bameso, Varias Luces, Calero, Villa Francisca, Enriquillo, Pueblo Nuevo, La Ciénaga, Renacer, Unión Barrial, and the Santiago Clubs Association. During the ceremony, Minister Kelvin Cruz emphasized the government's commitment to expanding opportunities for youth through sports and noted President Luis Abinader's support for constructing new sports facilities.
The commemoration also served to remember the five members of the Héctor J. Díaz Club who were killed in 1971: Radhamés Peláez Tejeda, Rubén Darío Sandoval, Víctor Fernando Checo, Reyes Florentino Santana, and Gerardo Bautista Gómez.
