Midlands Prison: Six prisoners overdose after drone drug drop

Six prisoners at Midlands Prison in Ireland suffered overdoses after drugs were reportedly dropped into a prison yard by a drone. Four of the individuals were hospitalised, with one remaining in an induced coma.

The Irish Prison Service is working with the Health Service Executive (HSE) and An Garda Síochána to manage the situation. In response to the incident, prison authorities have increased the frequency of random and intelligence-led cell searches and deployed canine units to focus on deliveries and perimeter security.

Minister for Justice Jim O'Callaghan has been briefed on the developments. The Irish Prison Service has appealed to the public, staff, and visitors to provide any information regarding the trafficking of contraband via a confidential telephone line.
