Midori releases Robert Schumann violin concerto on Pentatone

Violinist Midori has released her debut recording on the Pentatone label, featuring Robert Schumann’s Violin Concerto in D minor, WoO. 23. The recording also includes various miniatures for violin and piano by both Robert Schumann and his wife, Clara Schumann.

Robert Schumann's violin concerto was long neglected after the composer's death, as Joseph Joachim, Clara Schumann, and Johannes Brahms suppressed the score due to concerns regarding the composer's mental health. The manuscript was eventually rediscovered in the Prussian State Library in Berlin. The concerto's premiere was later given by Georg Kulenkampff in 1937 with the Berlin Philharmonic.
