Midwest agriculture faces mixed weather impacts in Ohio and Wisconsin

Agricultural reports from Ohio and Wisconsin indicate varying impacts of recent weather patterns on crop development and farm management.

In Ohio, heavy August rainfall has aided soil moisture levels but created logistical hurdles for livestock producers. Excessive rain has stalled manure application and increased the volume in outdoor storage facilities, potentially diluting nutrient concentrations. Despite the wet conditions, corn and soybean progress remains favorable, with corn reaching the dough stage at 87% and soybean pod setting at 93%.

In Wisconsin, the situation is more bifurcated. While recent rains provided a lifeline to some areas, over 40% of cropland still faces moisture shortages, particularly in the northwestern region. Improved crop genetics have helped some corn and soybean varieties withstand recent dry spells. Currently, 65% of Wisconsin's corn is rated in good to excellent condition, and 91% of soybean fields are setting pods.
