Indiana and Minnesota Crops Benefit from Recent Rains and Favorable Conditions

In north‑central Indiana, farmer Austin Henderson of Tipton County reported that about 63 % of the region’s corn and soybean fields are rated good‑to‑excellent, matching the USDA’s latest Crop Progress Report. He noted that recent thunderstorms delivered much‑needed moisture and only limited wind damage, while growers are focusing on managing grey leaf‑spot fungus with proactive fungicide applications and continuing to contend with waterhemp weeds.

Across the state line in Minnesota, USDA data show 77 % of corn and 78 % of soybeans in good‑to‑excellent condition. Farmer Ryan Mackenthun, president of the Minnesota Soybean Growers Association, credited a series of frequent rains for lifting the crops after a dry spell, saying disease and insect pressure remain low. Crop development is ahead of schedule, with roughly a quarter of corn in the dough stage and over 60 % of soybeans setting pods.
