Midwest farms open for fall apple and pumpkin harvest season

Fall harvest season has arrived across the Midwest, with various family-run farms in Ohio and Michigan offering seasonal activities such as U-pick apples, pumpkin patches, and corn mazes.

In Michigan, several locations in Southeast Michigan are hosting fall events. Big Red Orchard in Washington Township provides U-pick apples, a restaurant, and a cider mill. Blake Farms operates four locations in Armada, Almont, and South Lyon, featuring farm stores and bakeries. Other regional options include Hy's Cider Mill in Romeo, Kreps Apple Barn & Cider Mill in La Salle, and Long Family Orchard & Farm in Commerce Township.

In the Upper Peninsula, Zawada Farms in Bark River is celebrating a successful growing season despite dry conditions. The multi-generational farm, which has been in the Zawada family since the 1930s, offers five acres of pumpkins, specialty gourds, and a five-acre corn maze. The farm has recently renovated its facilities to include a cafe and a dedicated pumpkin store.

In Ohio, Cherry Orchards in Morgan County continues its 50-year tradition of producing seasonal fruit. The farm operates on a harvest-driven schedule, with U-pick apple availability occurring on Sundays depending on ripening conditions.
