Midwives honoring Stanisława Leszczyńska meet with the Pope

A group of approximately fifty midwives and healthcare workers from the Association Commemorating the Figure of Midwife Stanisława Leszczyńska met with the Pope during a general audience. The delegation included Ewa Machaj-Antosiewicz, who was born in the Auschwitz concentration camp in 1944 due to the assistance of Stanisława Leszczyńska.

Leszczyńska, a Servant of God, was a heroic midwife who provided care to approximately 3,000 women giving birth while imprisoned in the Nazi concentration camp. Bishop Krzysztof Józef Nykiel, the postulator for her canonization process, accompanied the group. During the meeting, the Pope acknowledged his familiarity with Leszczyńska’s legacy of saving children and supporting women in Auschwitz.
