Midyat women prepare winter food supplies through collective labor
In the Midyat district of Mardin, approximately 30 women are gathering at the Multi-Purpose Community Center (ÇATOM) to prepare food supplies for the winter using the traditional 'imece' method of collective labor.
Under the guidance of coordinator Gülten Erol and cook Fatma Ersoy, the women are processing various agricultural products, including tomatoes, eggplants, peppers, okra, mint, and basil. This year, the group has also expanded its production to include red pepper paste.
While a portion of the prepared goods is reserved for the women's personal household needs, the surplus is sold through the Midyat Women's Cooperative. This initiative allows the participants to contribute to their family budgets while fostering a sense of productivity and community. The preparations are expected to continue through November, depending on weather conditions.
