Mieres Council Demands Expanded Bus Services to Gijón, Avilés, and Langreo

The Mieres municipal council has urged the Asturias regional government to increase the frequency of bus services linking the town with Gijón, Avilés and Langreo. Officials argue that population growth, new business investments, and daily commuting of students and staff to the University of Oviedo’s Barredo campus require a modern transport network, not the limited five daily buses currently provided.

The council also highlighted the lack of connections to major industrial parks, calling for shuttle services during peak work hours. While praising the Conecta single‑ticket system for reducing travel costs, they said its benefits are undermined by insufficient bus frequencies and urged the regional mobility department to adapt the network to current demand.
