Mieroszów Mayor seeks legal relief over Łączna Zoo animal care costs
Andrzej Lipiński, the Mayor of Mieroszów, has formally petitioned the Wałbrzych District Prosecutor's Office to revoke a decision that placed the care of animals from the Łączna Zoo under his responsibility. The Mayor stated that the municipality lacks the necessary funds to provide adequate food, veterinary care, and proper shelter for the animals.
The legal situation follows a police and prosecutorial intervention at the zoo on October 13, which involved the seizure of 561 animals due to alleged irregularities. While some animals were relocated to other facilities, including locations in the Netherlands, many remained on-site under the care of the Mayor and existing staff.
The municipality argues it cannot fulfill the obligation of animal custody without financial support, as the prosecution has indicated it will not cover maintenance costs. The Mayor is requesting an immediate reversal of the October 16 decision that designated him as the trusted person responsible for the animals' welfare.
