MIG Production House apologizes for ‘Madu Atau Racun’ controversy
MIG Production House has issued a formal apology following controversy surrounding its drama series, ‘Madu Atau Racun’, which is currently streaming on iQIYI. The production house stated they had no intention of causing controversy or disrespecting religious and social sensitivities, but they accept the criticism as a lesson for future works.
The backlash arose from scenes alleged to depict same-sex relationships, prompting calls for the series to be withdrawn. The issue drew attention from Dr. Zulkifli Hasan, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs), who expressed regret over elements that touch upon religious sensitivities and local cultural norms. A meeting has been arranged involving the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS), MIG, iQIYI, and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to discuss the matter.
Lead actress Uqasha Senrose expressed her disappointment regarding the public reaction. She noted that many criticisms were based on edited clips circulating on social media rather than the full context of the episodes. Senrose also voiced distress that the backlash had extended beyond her professional work to include personal attacks against her and her children, as well as questioning religious matters.
