Mighty Wanderers FC donates K10 million to Malawi sports writers

Mighty Wanderers FC and its president, Dr. Thomson Mpinganjira, have donated K10 million to the Sports Writers Association of Malawi (SWAM). The contribution is intended to support the association’s upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Salima, scheduled for November 13–15, 2026.

The total donation consists of K5 million from Dr. Mpinganjira personally and a matching K5 million from the football club. Welloce Kachingwe, the acting CEO of Wanderers, stated that the gesture recognizes the vital role sports journalists play in promoting and developing football through coverage and analysis.

SWAM President Mphatso Malidadi described the donation as timely, noting that the association had previously postponed the AGM from October to November due to funding requirements. Malidadi highlighted that the association's total budget is K51 million and encouraged other organizations to partner with them. The upcoming AGM will also commemorate World Sports Journalists Day and include training sessions for journalists.
