Migraine Prophylaxis Improves Cognition and Shows Drug Efficacy
A prospective, comparative longitudinal study of 90 migraine patients (average age 42, 96.7% women) in Germany found that preventive treatment with CGRP‑targeted monoclonal antibodies or botulinum toxin led to measurable improvements in cognitive performance, especially executive function, during the interictal period. The cognitive gains were linked to a reduction of monthly moderate‑to‑severe headache days (≥30% reduction for chronic migraine, ≥50% for episodic migraine).
A separate comparative study evaluated two oral migraine‑preventive drugs, topiramate and atogepant, confirming both as effective options and providing data on tolerability to aid clinicians in treatment selection.
