Migrant arrivals in Salerno and funerals in Bari

A group of 75 migrants is expected to arrive at the port of Salerno, Italy, following three separate sea rescue operations. Among those arriving are 33 unaccompanied minors. The group consists primarily of individuals from Somalia, Eritrea, South Sudan, and Syria, along with one Iranian citizen. Local authorities, including Prefect Francesco Esposito, have coordinated the landing, which involves identification by police, health checks by the Red Cross, and vulnerability assessments by the European Union Agency for Asylum.

In Bari, funeral services are scheduled for seven individuals who died during a Mediterranean crossing on August 17. The victims, originating from Somalia and Egypt, were part of a group that departed from Zuwara, Libya. The shipwreck occurred during a journey where others suffered from suffocation due to prolonged time in the vessel's hold. The burial ceremony will be conducted in accordance with Islamic rites, with representatives from the Islamic Community of Italy and the Somali Consulate in attendance.
