Migrant arrivals increase along the coasts of South Sardinia

A surge in migrant arrivals has been reported along the coasts of South Sardinia, causing concern among locals and authorities due to the proximity of landings to crowded beaches.

In Santa Margherita di Pula, a small boat carrying eight migrants attempted to reach the shore near the El Tiburon Beach establishment. Witnesses reported that the vessel reversed course and headed toward Cagliari at high speed after being met by the reaction of swimmers. This incident follows a previous accident at Tuerredda on August 16, where a tourist was seriously injured by a boat carrying migrants.

In Sant’Antioco, a group of 11 migrants was intercepted by recreational boaters near Turri beach. The Guardia di Finanza subsequently escorted the group to the commercial port. Other recent arrivals in the region include 24 Algerians intercepted near Capo Teulada, 19 individuals at Tuerredda, and 13 North Africans in the Teulada area. Security forces, including the Guardia di Finanza, the Coast Guard, and Frontex, are conducting ongoing patrols to manage the continuous influx of arrivals.
