Texas ICE operation detains over 4,100 migrants in 10 days

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced the results of the ‘Lone Star Mission’, a ten-day operation conducted between October 19 and October 29. The operation, involving five regional offices of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Texas, resulted in the detention of 4,170 migrants.

Authorities stated that the detainees were in an irregular migratory situation. Among those arrested were individuals allegedly linked to homicide, sexual assault, human trafficking, and driving under the influence. Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin described the operation as an incredible success, highlighting the cooperation between federal, state, and local agencies in cities including Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, El Paso, and Harlingen.

While the administration emphasized the arrest of individuals with criminal ties, a University of Colorado study noted that during the first 14 months of the Trump administration, only 34 percent of people arrested by ICE had a criminal conviction.
