Migrant encampment established near The Connaught in Mayfair
A makeshift camp for homeless migrants has been established near The Connaught, an exclusive luxury hotel in London’s Mayfair district. The encampment is situated around Mount Street and Carlos Place, areas characterized by high-end boutiques, Michelin-starred restaurants, and multi-million pound Georgian townhouses.
Reports indicate that individuals, believed to be recently arrived migrants, gather in the area during the early evening and sleep in doorways. Observations at the site include issues with litter and sanitation. During the day, some individuals remain in the area and engage in begging, using handwritten cardboard signs to request assistance for hunger and homelessness.
This development follows similar reports of improvised encampments and antisocial behavior in other central London locations, such as the area surrounding the Marks and Spencer flagship store on Oxford Street.
