Migrant management shifts in Calabria as camps close and hubs are proposed

In Calabria, the demolition of the San Ferdinando migrant camp has led to the relocation of 106 individuals to previously unused housing in Rosarno. While the dismantling of the makeshift settlement marks a transition, humanitarian organizations such as Emergency have expressed concerns that the measure may be insufficient. They warn of the potential for new pockets of marginalization or the emergence of new ghettos, particularly as thousands of migrants are expected to arrive during upcoming harvest seasons.

Separately, in Rosolini, officials have addressed rumors regarding a potential new migrant reception center. Carmelo Floriddia, a consultant to the mayor and member of Futuro Nazionale, clarified that the proposal from the Prefecture involves a temporary identification hub rather than a permanent reception center. This facility would only be activated during emergency landing events. Local authorities have already rejected the use of the recently restored Tobruk school for this purpose.
