Migrant rights groups allege irregularities in TVR issuance at Chiapas border
Migrant rights organizations are calling for an investigation into the National Institute of Migration (INM) following allegations of irregularities regarding the issuance of Regional Visitor Cards (TVR) at the Chiapas border.
Activists, including Luis García Villagrán, report that Guatemalan families attempting to obtain the documents at facilities in Talismán and Ciudad Hidalgo are facing obstacles. Allegations suggest applicants are being denied the cards under the suspicion they intend to travel to the United States.
Furthermore, reports indicate that after being turned away at official windows, some families are approached by individuals offering to facilitate the process for fees of up to 3,000 pesos. Advocates are requesting increased supervision at border points in Talismán, Ciudad Hidalgo, and Tecún Umán to prevent potential corruption involving public officials and private actors.
