Migrants escape from Pastrogr transit center in Bulgaria
Twelve migrants, primarily Moroccan nationals, escaped from a closed-type transit center in the village of Pastrogr near Svilengrad during the night. The group managed to remove window bars and exit the building.
While three individuals were immediately apprehended by on-duty officers in the center's courtyard, nine others climbed onto a garage and scaled the outer fence. Following a search operation involving police from Haskovo, Harmanli, and Border Police, ten individuals have been detained, while two remain at large.
The center currently houses approximately 100 people. This incident follows a previous escape in July, during which a vehicle belonging to the local mayor was stolen. Although the Ministry of Interior had previously issued directives to the State Agency for Refugees to strengthen security measures—including reinforcing window bars and installing additional fencing—most of these requirements had not yet been implemented at the time of the escape.
