Migrants in Paris face humanitarian emergency in makeshift camp

Approximately 400 migrants have been living in makeshift tents in the Marais district of central Paris since mid-July. The camp, located in front of the central city hall, consists of people with both regular and irregular residency status, many of whom were recently evacuated from another camp in the south of the capital.

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has established a mobile clinic at the site, providing medical consultations twice a week. While severe physical pathologies are currently rare, MSF reports a high prevalence of headaches, respiratory issues, back pain, and significant psychological distress. The organization has issued an alert regarding the deteriorating health conditions and the urgent humanitarian situation.

Local associations continue to criticize the lack of emergency housing in Paris. The camp's infrastructure remains rudimentary, with only four construction toilets recently installed in a nearby park to serve the growing number of occupants.
