Migratory bird season triggers conservation and observation efforts in Chile and Mexico
As migratory bird season begins, conservation efforts and observation opportunities are being highlighted in Chile and Mexico.
In Chile, the Servicio Agrícola y Ganadero (SAG) has issued a call to protect migratory species to maintain ecosystem balance. The agency advises citizens to respect nesting and feeding areas, avoid using motorized vehicles in sensitive zones, and keep pets under control to prevent attacks on wildlife. Additionally, SAG is maintaining active sanitary surveillance to monitor for highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) as birds migrate from the Northern Hemisphere.
In Mexico, thousands of migratory raptors are currently crossing Veracruz on their journey from North America to Central and South America. The Pronatura project, which has monitored these species for 35 years, invites the public to observe this phenomenon at the Chichicaxtle raptor observatory in Puente Nacional. The observatory provides educational talks and assistance in identifying various species, including raptors, aquatic birds, and songbirds.
