Migros donates 2.14 million Swiss francs to drought-affected farmers

Swiss retailer Migros has announced a donation of 2.14 million Swiss francs to support the agricultural sector following a severe drought. The funds are intended to assist farmers facing financial difficulties caused by the weather conditions.

The Bucher Gossweiler Foundation, which is closely linked to the Swiss Farmers' Union, will manage the distribution of the funds. The foundation’s board of trustees will determine the allocation, with specific procedures and application criteria scheduled to be published on August 31, 2026. Stakeholders aim to ensure the aid is targeted toward regions where the drought's impact is most severe.

Mario Irminger, chairman of the executive board of the Federation of Migros Cooperatives, emphasized that Swiss agriculture is vital to the nation's food supply and noted the importance of swift action during exceptional circumstances. Migros, as a primary purchaser of Swiss agricultural products, stated that the situation underscores the necessity of a stable partnership between the retail sector and farmers.
