Migros expands Teo self-service mini-stores into rural areas

Migros is expanding its Teo mini-branch concept, focusing on smaller communities and rural areas. A new 24-hour self-service location is scheduled to open next year in the former post office building in Speicher, Appenzell Ausserrhoden.

According to Migros Ostschweiz spokesperson Andreas Bühler, the company is seeing steadily increasing demand for these locations. While similar unattended models faced challenges in Zurich, the concept is proving profitable in Eastern Switzerland, where nine branches already exist. Another Teo branch is expected to be completed in Räterschen, near Winterthur, later this year.

Retail experts suggest the model serves a specific need for local supply in villages where the customer base may be too small for a traditional supermarket. Migros intends to continue searching for suitable locations to grow the Teo brand in the coming years.
