Miguel Ahumada Primary School faces teacher shortage for new school year
Miguel Ahumada Primary School No. 2289 has opened for the 2026-2027 school year with a significant shortage of teaching staff. Currently, 147 students in grades three through six are attending classes with an incomplete faculty. Of the six teachers required for the morning shift, only three are currently assigned, leaving vacancies for third, fourth, and fifth-grade teachers, as well as a physical education instructor.
School director Guadalupe Rivera de Anda stated that the need for personnel was reported as early as May, but no official response regarding assignments was received by the start of the term. She noted that while the school used temporary teachers last year, she is now requesting permanent staff or teachers who can remain for the entire school year.
The shortage extends beyond this single institution; School Zone 20 has a total of 32 missing teachers. In response, schools within the zone plan to present formal requests to educational authorities at Pueblito Mexicano. Subsecretary of Education Roberto Anaya clarified that the assignment of these positions falls under the jurisdiction of the Unidad del Sistema para la Carrera de las Maestras y los Maestros (Usicamm).
