Miguel Díaz-Canel condemns US legal action against Raúl Castro

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel has condemned a legal action taken in the United States against Army General Raúl Castro. The President characterized the arrest warrant issued by the Florida State Attorney's Office—related to the 1996 downing of two aircraft that violated Cuban airspace—as a “reprehensible” maneuver orchestrated by anti-Cuban politicians for electoral purposes.

Díaz-Canel stated that the warrant lacks legal and practical merit, describing it as part of a persistent policy of aggression against Cuba intended to justify economic and financial blockades. He emphasized that Raúl Castro maintains the full support of the Cuban people.

Separately, the Asociación Hermanos Saíz (AHS), an organization representing young Cuban artists, is celebrating its 40th anniversary. President Díaz-Canel met with over fifty members of the AHS to discuss the role of young creators in the nation's social and cultural development. Celebrations for the organization's anniversary, which was founded on October 18, 1986, are being held across various provinces, including Pinar del Río and Santiago de Cuba, through artistic galas, workshops, and award ceremonies.
