Miguel Herrera reflects on career controversies and past coaching roles

Miguel Herrera, current coach of Atlante, has reflected on significant turning points in his career, including a controversial 2015 incident and past tensions within Club América.

In a recent interview, Herrera addressed the 2015 physical altercation with TV Azteca narrator Christian Martinoli at a Philadelphia airport. The incident occurred following the Mexican National Team's Gold Cup victory and resulted in Herrera being removed from his position as head coach of the national team. Herrera admitted his behavior was unjustifiable and impulsive, noting that he had previously attempted to resolve differences through mutual acquaintance Luis García.

Additionally, Herrera discussed the aftermath of his departure from Club América to lead the Mexican National Team in 2013. He recalled that his then-assistant, Santiago Baños, was upset because former sporting director Ricardo Peláez had allegedly promised Baños the head coaching position once Herrera left. Herrera noted that he confronted Baños at the time, emphasizing that Baños needed to earn a coaching role through his own merits rather than relying on promises.
