Miguel Jimenez Vergara Wins Men’s Wheelchair Race as Beach to Beacon 10K Expands Field

California‑born Miguel Jimenez Vergara captured the men’s wheelchair title at the TD Beach to Beacon 10K in Cape Elizabeth, Maine, finishing in 22 minutes, 36 seconds on his first trip to the state. The race featured the largest wheelchair field in the event’s history, with 13 competitors – seven men and six women – nearly doubling the size of the field from the previous year and up from just five participants four years ago.

Hoda Elshorbagy of Urbana, Illinois, won the women’s division in 26:25, while Yen Hoang of Champaign, Illinois, who had won the race in 2022 and 2023, finished second. Veteran racer Hermin Garic of Utica, New York, who had dominated the men’s division in prior years, placed third. Organizers and athletes praised the race’s challenging course and its welcoming atmosphere, noting that the growth reflects a broader surge in interest in wheelchair road racing.

The Beach to Beacon 10K, a signature summer event in Maine, continues to attract elite adaptive athletes, underscoring the sport’s expanding popularity and the event’s reputation within the wheelchair racing community.
