Miguel Ángel Granados Chapa: 15 years since the passing of the journalist

Fifteen years after his passing, the legacy of Mexican journalist Miguel Ángel Granados Chapa continues to be recognized for its analytical rigor and commitment to democratic institutions. Known for his column ‘Plaza Pública’, Granados Chapa was noted for his ability to provide documented analysis rather than visceral opinion, a trait shaped by his academic background in Law, Journalism, and History.

Throughout his career, his work appeared in various major publications, including Excélsior, La Jornada, Proceso, and Reforma. He was regarded as a builder of civility who sought to strengthen democratic processes, serving as a citizen advisor for the IFE and as an educator at institutions such as UNAM and the Universidad Iberoamericana.

His final column, published in Reforma shortly before his death in 2011, focused on electoral coalitions. He is remembered by colleagues and readers for his intellectual depth, his refusal to follow political populism, and his ability to bring clarity to complex political landscapes.
