Miguel Ángel Martínez Dionisio Takes Office as Interim Mayor of Perote, Mexico

Miguel Ángel Martínez Dionisio was sworn in as interim municipal president of Perote, Veracruz, after the elected mayor Vinicio Ascencio Fernández was granted a 90‑day health leave. The leave was approved by the Permanent Deputation of the Veracruz State Congress following Ascencio’s request due to ongoing medical treatment and surgery.

Vinicio Ascencio Fernández, a member of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), won the municipal election on 1 June 2024. His prolonged health issues forced him to step aside temporarily, and the council expressed solidarity with both the departing mayor and his interim successor while urging a swift recovery.

Martínez will lead the municipal administration for the duration of the approved leave, maintaining the municipality’s programs and services.
