Miguel Ángel Uriegas releases migration allegory animation
Mexican filmmaker Miguel Ángel Uriegas is releasing a new animated feature, ‘Un reino para todos nosotros’, which uses fantasy allegory to address the global phenomenon of migration and the refugee crisis. Produced by the studio Fotosíntesis Media, the film follows the principle of ‘entertainment with a cause’ to foster social awareness.
The story centers on two siblings, Serendín and Fran, who live in a guarded strip of land. They dream of building a train called ‘La Bestia’ to escape to ‘El reino’, a walled paradise containing the tree of life that nourishes humanity. The narrative explores themes of inequality driven by the ambition and power of a few.
To ensure an authentic representation of the refugee experience, Uriegas and his team collaborated with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to research the realities and actors involved in migration issues.
