Miguel Ángel Villena's 'Republicanas' launched in Mallorca by Francina Armengol

Historian and journalist Miguel Ángel Villena released his new book *Republicanas: Revolución, guerra y exilio de nueve diputadas* (Tusquets Editores, 2026) at a ceremony on 5 August in the Club Pollença, Mallorca. The presentation was made by Francina Armengol, the current President of the Spanish Congress of Deputies.

The work recounts the lives of the nine women who served as deputies during Spain’s Second Republic (1931‑1939). It highlights their contributions as writers, journalists, lawyers, teachers and activists, their struggle for women’s suffrage and equality, and the exile many faced after the Civil War. By bringing these largely forgotten figures back into public memory, the book connects historic feminist battles with contemporary debates on gender rights in Spain.
