Asunción: Soledad Núñez wins mayoralty in close municipal election

Paraguay's municipal elections have resulted in significant political shifts, most notably in the capital, Asunción. Soledad Núñez, representing the Juntos por Asunción alliance, secured the mayoralty with 133,325 votes (47.78%), narrowly defeating the Colorado Party's Camilo Pérez, who received 128,301 votes (45.98%). This victory marks Núñez as only the second woman to hold the position.

President Santiago Peña commented on the close results in the capital, noting that the narrow margins do not constitute a definitive victory or defeat for either side. However, Senator Silvio Ovelar acknowledged that the loss in Asunción is a significant blow to the Asociación Nacional Republicana (ANR) and could impact the political landscape for the 2028 general elections.

In other municipalities, Hugo Farías (ANR) won in Luque, and Arnold Ramírez (ANR) reclaimed Presidente Franco. In Buena Vista, Estanislao 'Tani' Silvero Argüello regained the mayoralty following a very tight race. Meanwhile, Miguel Prieto noted that the success of his movement in Ciudad del Este serves as a foundation for future national ambitions.
