Miguel Uribe Turbay family faces trademark dispute and political tension

The family of the late Colombian senator Miguel Uribe Turbay is involved in both a legal dispute over his name and conflicting accounts regarding his security.

A trademark dispute has reached the Superintendencia de Industria y Comercio (SIC). Miguel Uribe Londoño, the senator's father, requested the registration of the name ‘Miguel Uribe Turbay’ for purposes including political promotion and charitable activities. María Claudia Tarazona, the senator's widow and legal representative of their minor son, has opposed this request, asserting that the rights to the name and image belong to her son. Tarazona has filed her own application for the same name for similar services.

Separately, tensions have emerged following the death of Miguel Orlando Guzmán, alias ‘Robinson Gutiérrez,’ a suspected member of the Segunda Marquetalia linked to the senator's murder. Tarazona has called for investigations to ensure justice, while Uribe Londoño has leveled accusations against President Gustavo Petro, alleging complicity in the removal of the senator's protections. The family members hold differing views on potential security infiltrations surrounding the late politician.
