Mihai Leu’s championship trophies preserved in Hunedoara

Marco Leu, the son of the late Romanian boxing champion Mihai Leu, has revealed that his father’s championship belts and trophies are being preserved in a special area within a home gym in Hunedoara.

Mihai Leu, a former WBO super lightweight world champion who achieved his title in 1997, passed away on July 1, 2025, following a battle with colon cancer. In addition to his boxing career, which included 28 victories, Leu was also a national rally champion.

Marco Leu stated that seeing the trophies serves as motivation for his own pursuits in motorsport and cycling. The family continues to carefully maintain the collection and has archived video recordings of the late champion’s career highlights.
