Mika Hakkinen and David Coulthard reflect on McLaren rivalry

Coulthard recalled their collision at the 1999 Austrian Grand Prix, where he struck Hakkinen at the second corner, causing the Finn to spin. While Coulthard led much of that race, Eddie Irvine ultimately took the victory. Hakkinen, despite the spin, managed to recover to finish third. Hakkinen noted that such incidents are a normal part of motorsport and emphasized the importance of resolving conflicts quickly to focus on racing.

Coulthard drew a comparison between their former dynamic and the current McLaren driver pairing of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, noting similarities in how the team manages driver expectations and internal competition.
