Mika Kojonkoski announces retirement from ski jumping coaching
Renowned ski jumping coach Mika Kojonkoski has announced his retirement from coaching. The 63-year-old Finn cited exhaustion from constant travel as a primary reason for his decision, stating, “The quota of traveling is full.”
Kojonkoski’s career is marked by significant international success. He notably led the Norwegian team to numerous World Championship and Olympic medals, transforming them into a global powerhouse. He also coached teams from Austria and Finland, and more recently worked on developing ski jumping in China and coaching Finnish athlete Vilho Palosaari.
While stepping away from the coaching role, Kojonkoski will remain involved in the sport through his position on the FIS (International Ski Federation) ski jumping committee. He plans to dedicate more time to his family and his business, which specializes in lecturing and wealth management.
