Mikdat Kadıoğlu explains Turkey's recent temperature drop

Mikdat Kadıoğlu, a professor at Istanbul Technical University, has addressed the recent significant drop in temperatures in Turkey. He explained that the rapid change is likely due to the movement of different air masses and the passage of a cold front, rather than being a direct indicator of climate change.

Kadıoğlu emphasized the distinction between daily weather events and long-term climate change. He noted that while climate change raises overall temperature levels and can delay the onset of autumn coolness in certain regions, single instances of temperature fluctuations should not be used to make broad claims about climate shifts. He argued that assessing climate change requires scientific analysis of data spanning many years rather than focusing on short-term meteorological changes.

According to the General Directorate of Meteorology, Turkey's average temperature for August was 25.7 degrees Celsius, which is higher than the 1991-2020 average of 25.1 degrees Celsius.
