Mike Bartlett's Play “COCK” Opens at Lisbon's Teatro Maria Matos on Oct. 12

British playwright Mike Bartlett’s comedy‑drama “COCK,” which debuted in London’s West End in 2009, is being staged for the first time in Portugal at Lisbon’s Teatro Maria Matos. The production opens on 12 October and runs on Mondays and Tuesdays at 21:00.

Directed by Ricardo Neves‑Neves with a Portuguese translation by Ana Sampaio, the set was designed by F. Ribeiro. The cast includes Adriano Luz, Cristóvão Campos, Gabriela Barros and Romeu Costa. Critics from The New York Times, The Guardian, The New York Post and The New Yorker have praised the play’s sharp dialogue and contemporary take on love, desire and identity, focusing on a love triangle involving João, his long‑term boyfriend M., and a woman F. who enters his life.

The production is presented by a local Portuguese producer and tickets are available through the theatre’s box office.
