Mike Batist returns to Panathinaikos as assistant coach

Former EuroLeague player Mike Batist has returned to Panathinaikos, this time serving as an assistant coach under Željko Obradović. In recent interviews, Batist reflected on his deep connection to Athens and his professional relationship with Obradović.

Batist shared anecdotes regarding Obradović’s coaching style, noting that while the Serbian strategist is known for strict discipline and high standards on the court, he possesses a more approachable and empathetic personality off the court. Batist recalled a moment of tension when he encountered Obradović while out with teammates, only for the coach to permit their leisure time provided they arrived at practice early the next morning.

Regarding his return to the club, Batist described the intense reaction from Panathinaikos figure Dimitris Giannakopoulos upon learning of his comeback, comparing the news to a ‘bomb’ dropping. Batist expressed readiness to contribute to the coaching staff, noting that while he respects the team plan, he feels confident enough to engage in professional disagreements with Obradović to improve the team's performance.
