Mike Batiste returns to Panathinaikos as assistant coach under Zeljko Obradovic

American former player Mike Batiste is rejoining Greek basketball powerhouse Panathinaikos (AKTOR) as an assistant coach, working directly with head coach Zeljko Obradović. The club’s owner Dimitris Giannakopoulos announced the three‑year appointment on Instagram, noting Batiste’s extensive NBA coaching résumé, which includes assistant roles with the Brooklyn Nets, Charlotte Hornets, Orlando Magic, Washington Wizards, Houston Rockets and Toronto Raptors.

Batiste, a key figure in Panathinaikos’ most successful era, played for the club from 2003‑2012 and again in 2013‑14, helping win three EuroLeague titles, nine Greek championships and seven Greek Cups. His return is described as a “legend never leaves” move, aiming to bring NBA‑level tactical insight and player development methods to the team while reinforcing Obradović’s philosophy.

The appointment was reported by Greek and Bulgarian media, confirming that Batiste will begin his duties ahead of the upcoming season, strengthening the coaching staff as Panathinaikos pursues domestic and European success.
