Mike Evans joins San Francisco 49ers as injury concerns emerge

Wide receiver Mike Evans left the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after 12 seasons to sign with the San Francisco 49ers in free agency. Evans said head coach Kyle Shanahan’s reputation as a “genius” offensive mind was a key factor in his decision, praising Shanahan’s ability to explain the game on both sides of the ball. The move gives quarterback Brock Purdy a premier outside‑receiving threat.

During training camp Evans missed a practice due to a minor quad strain. The 49ers, noting the injury is “very minor,” plan to give the 32‑year‑old extra rest to avoid aggravating the issue. The team’s injury woes this offseason also include other receivers on the roster, but Evans remains a high‑profile addition for San Francisco’s passing attack.
