Mike Flanagan’s Carrie becomes global streaming hit on Prime Video
Mike Flanagan’s eight-episode adaptation of Stephen King’s ‘Carrie’ has become an international streaming hit on Prime Video, reaching the top of series charts in 46 countries. The series reimagines the 1974 horror classic by integrating modern social anxieties, such as online harassment and school shooting drills, to explore the psychological trauma of protagonist Carrie White.
Unlike previous film adaptations, Flanagan’s version introduces significant narrative changes. Most notably, the series concludes with Carrie surviving the prom massacre and leaving her hometown with a new character, Emaline, rather than dying. Flanagan has expressed interest in expanding the story into a trilogy, noting that the new ending provides a foundation for future character development.
Stephen King has praised Flanagan as the “best adapter” of his work, suggesting potential future collaborations. The production has received positive attention for its character depth and its ability to modernize the source material while maintaining its iconic horror elements.
