Mike Flanagan's Carrie series debuts on Prime Video

Mike Flanagan has released an eight-episode adaptation of Stephen King’s Carrie on Prime Video. Unlike previous film versions, this series expands the narrative, introducing new characters with psychic abilities, such as Emaline West and Adelaide, who belong to a group of "shining" individuals.

The series explores Carrie White’s life under the influence of her deeply religious mother, Margaret, and the social isolation she faces at high school. The production includes various literary nods, such as a reference to William Peter Blatty’s The Exorcist, which ties into Flanagan’s upcoming work within that horror universe.

This adaptation is part of a broader ambition to build a franchise around King’s work, potentially paving the way for future projects like The Dark Tower. The series marks a continued successful collaboration between Flanagan and King, following their previous work on Doctor Sleep and Gerald’s Game.
