Prime Video releases Mike Flanagan’s ‘Carrie’ series

Prime Video has released the first television series adaptation of Stephen King’s debut novel, ‘Carrie’, featuring eight episodes available for binge-watching. Developed by showrunner Mike Flanagan, the series reimagines the classic horror story within a contemporary setting, emphasizing the impact of social media, viral bullying, and cyberbullying on the protagonist, Carrie White.

Summer H. Howell stars as Carrie White, a teenager navigating high school after the sudden death of her father, while Samantha Sloyan portrays her protective mother, Margaret White. The narrative expands on the original text by exploring broader social dynamics, family histories, and the community pressures of Ewen High School. The series also introduces elements of a larger supernatural history, hinting at hereditary telekinetic powers.

Flanagan, known for ‘The Haunting of Hill House’, directed four of the eight episodes. Stephen King serves as an executive producer. The series has received notable early attention, with some critics praising it as a significant new take on the decades-old franchise.
