Mike Flanagan expresses interest in directing a horror-focused Jurassic movie

Filmmaker Mike Flanagan has expressed interest in directing a future installment of the Jurassic franchise, suggesting a shift toward a more intense horror direction. During a Reddit AMA, Flanagan stated that he would want to “go really scary with it” to create a “true dinosaur horror film.”

Flanagan noted that while he previously avoided sequels and franchise films, he now enjoys the opportunity to “play in a world I know and respect and adore and put my own spin on it.” He compared his interest in the franchise to his views on the Jaws sequels, suggesting there is significant room for improvement in subsequent entries.

While Flanagan’s comments do not confirm an official role, Universal Pictures is reportedly seeking a director for future projects. The franchise's most recent entry, Jurassic World Rebirth, was released in July 2025 and directed by Gareth Edwards.
