Mike Flanagan expresses interest in directing Jaws and Jurassic Park horror films

Horror director Mike Flanagan has expressed interest in helming new entries for major film franchises, specifically targeting the Jaws and Jurassic Park universes. During a Reddit Q&A, Flanagan noted that while he respects Steven Spielberg’s original 1975 Jaws film as untouchable, he believes there is significant room for improvement in the subsequent sequels. He suggested a return to the franchise could provide a genuinely frightening experience.

Flanagan also voiced a desire to approach a Jurassic Park project through the lens of dark, survival-based dinosaur horror, rather than treating the creatures as mere attractions. He emphasized that for horror to be effective, it requires a sense of balance between good and evil.

In separate box office news, the horror film ‘Other Mommy’, starring Jessica Chastain, has seen a strong opening, earning $12.6 million on its first Friday. The film is projected to reach approximately $28 million over its opening weekend. In contrast, Aaron Sorkin’s drama ‘The Social Reckoning’ struggled, debuting with $2.15 million and trailing behind the horror genre's momentum.
