Scarlett Johansson to star in ‘The Exorcist: Martyrs’ reboot

The horror franchise ‘The Exorcist’ is set for a reboot with the upcoming film ‘The Exorcist: Martyrs’, directed by Mike Flanagan. The project aims to revitalize the series following previous unfavorable results.

Set thirteen years after New York City detective Julie Miller (played by Scarlett Johansson) stopped the satanic serial killer Father Sunday, the story follows Miller as she is drawn back into darkness by a new killer. The film features an ensemble cast including Chiwetel Ejiofor, John Leguizamo, Laurence Fishburne, Diane Lane, and Sasha Calle.

Unlike previous installments, this film will function as a complete reboot, providing Flanagan with the creative freedom to establish a new direction for the franchise without being strictly tied to prior continuity. ‘The Exorcist: Martyrs’ is scheduled for an exclusive theatrical release in the United States on March 12, 2027.
