Mike Flanagan writing new adaptation of Stephen King’s ‘The Mist’
Director and screenwriter Mike Flanagan is currently working on a new adaptation of Stephen King’s horror novella, ‘The Mist’. Speaking at the Toronto International Film Festival, Flanagan revealed that he is actively writing the script, even working on it during flights, and expects to complete the first draft by the Halloween period.
Flanagan, whose production company Red Room Pictures is involved alongside producers Tyler Thompson, Gary Barber, and Chris Stone of Spyglass, intends to take a different creative direction than Frank Darabont’s 2007 film adaptation. He stated, “It makes no sense to do it the same way again. This gives me the opportunity to tell something new, and that is always exciting.”
Warner Bros. officially confirmed the project earlier this year. While the script is progressing, a filming schedule and cast have not yet been announced. The story follows a group of people trapped in a supermarket in Maine after a mysterious mist filled with deadly creatures descends upon their town.
